On the corner of Great Charles Street and Margaret Street is a Grade II listed building that was home to The Birmingham Stock Exchange.
The Birmingham Stock Exchange was founded in the mid 19th Century, originally meeting in the Royal Hotel in Temple Row Birmingham.
In its 100+ years of trading it was a source of funding for local businesses such as Lucas Industries, a Manufacturer of automotive parts, based in the Jewellery Quarter.
In the mid 20th century, the Birmingham Stock Exchange became a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange, before being eventually winding down in the 1980s, due to the financial crisis and technological advancements in the process.
Today the Birmingham Stock Exchange, though no longer trading, runs as a NFP organisation, bringing together finance professionals, students and supporting charities and business across the region.
